Beside the sea-side … beside the sea – Steelasophical Steel Band

Beside the sea-side … beside the sea

Steelasophical brought a ray of musical sunshine to this wedding drinks reception at a very picturesque location on the southern English coastal town of Truro (http://www.broomparc.co.uk/)

Our music is quite unique and in a niche of its own. It brings a blend of so many things, with a repertoire of over 100 songs in over 10 genres, it means the music can be as soft and gentle as a steelband or string quartet, as vibrant as a latin band and as uplifting as a Caribbean steelband and everything in-between

The happy couple with family and friends

On this afternoon, I performed selections of traditional Caribbean, some well known love songs with an occasional mix of Cha Cha, Salsa, Trad Jazz, Soca and Reggae

For this reception the bride requested 2 songs

Sussex By The Sea

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

Sussex By The Sea .. is a fav of football followers of Brighton Football club. Her new husband Ash grew up in Brighton and is an avid fan. So Ash and his footballing friends had a great sing-along and cheer

Somewhere over the Rainbow (the Israel Kamakawiwo’ole version) while being performed had me thinking about the reaction it was getting from the bride and her family. So many started crying!!

Steel drum by the sea

On speaking with the brides father, it became very clear. Her brother was unfortunately passed away while on holiday in Hawaii and this song has has always been the strong spiritual and memory link the family have to him

A lovely day with many mixed emotions .. our music went some way to setting up the start of the evening
